No one makes men's dress hats like Makins. Season after season some of the most fashionable men's hats in America are produced by this New York hatter, such as The Miles Porkpie, a black and brown stitched grosgrain ribbon dress hat; The Horace, a hand-blocked fur felt fedora in slate with narrow leather band, so stylishly versatile it goes great with a suit or jeans. There's another porkpie (or stingy brim fedora, if you will) called The Monk (you know, of Thelonious fame) that's made from lizard leather strips, sewn together. When you've got this kind of texture plus outstanding colors (black steel and gray with a pale green stripe), and you know it's a creation from the workshop of Makins Hats where hats are still made the old-fashioned way with live steam and wooden blocks, you will be excused, I'm sure, for any little tears of happiness that might just now be streaming down your cheeks. However, you might wish to buck up and order, my man, before anyone else sees you.

There's a reason why this little hat concern wins
prestigious awards like the Coty ("for injecting excitement into a long
dormant category") and the Cutty Sark ("Best Men's Accessory Designer"). One
look at the this season's ramie caramel fedora or sisal porkpie in black,
and you'll start raving with the rest of us. (That's a good thing.)
I don't have many Bleeker Street fedoras in stock, so if you're in the market for a lightweight dress hat, you'd better order today. Makins uses strips of woven fibre which are then sewn together and trimmed with a textured rio braid. Turn up the brim, porkpie style, for extra attitude (if you think you can handle it, of course). Makins is nothing if not smoooooth, and their unlined velour fur felt fedora called The Cab -- in lightest camel -- is the consummate embodiment of suave savoir-faire. Besides, the brim turns up in back, and that's kinda cool. You may think nothing could top The Bleeker or The Cab, but there's a bark brown flat fur felt stingy brim porkpie that feels like cashmere, called The Gordon, and this baby's a contender. Too smooth for words (and that's saying something), the bound edge and band are trimmed with grosgrain ribbon.
For Panama straw and natural fiber men's hats in colors that'll knock you sideways, only Makins will do. From their Central Park and Madison Avenue to The Grand Central and Fifth Avenue, these fancy fedoras are only for the confident. Look how the colors pop in The St. Marks Place, a ramie fedora with a great silk and braid trim. Imagine how fine you'll look strolling down Houston on a warm day sporting the multi-toned Panama pinch front fedora, The Houston. Okay, now stop dreaming and start buying.
